Art Basel: Arte by Antonio Citterio

Lauded Italian architect, Antonio Citterio, is coming stateside with his first U.S. commissioned project, Arte by Antonio Citterio. To kick off Art Basel and Design Miami week the ultra-luxury condominium residences in Surfside will host an incredible custom video light installation.

“Ritual”, projected directly on the 12-story building, spans more than an acre. The installation will light up the night with a series of enchanting and luminous marine scenes. Inspired by the beauty of the building itself, the piece – a collaboration between Sophia Hanover and Stuart Parr – will illuminate Collins Avenue.

As one of the most popular streets in Miami Beach, Collins Avenue hosts a myriad of luxury hotels in famed art deco style and high-end shopping. An apt location, as the hub of the city, the avenue also runs parallel to the beach.

For nine years, Citterio worked in association with Terry Dwan, designing buildings in Europe and Japan. For his outstanding designs, Citterio received the “Compasso d’Oro” prize in 1987 and 1994. In 2008, he was also recognized for his achievements by the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce of London with the prestigious title of “Honorary Royal Designer for Industry.”

To mark the significant occasion, Design Miami will host a conversation with Citterio and Dan Rubinstein, Home & Design’s Editor of Departures. Together they will explore luxury architecture and design when done on an intimate scale.
