What is Art Basel?

Art Basel was formed in 1970 in Basel, Switzerland, when artists Ernst Beyeler, Trudl Bruckner and Balz Hilt collaborated to host an art fair. It was an immediate success garnering over 16,000 attendees in its inaugural year to view 90 galleries from 10 countries.

In the ensuing years Art Basel has grown to three host cities, Basel, Miami Beach and Hong Kong with over 250,000 attendees. Art Basel Miami Beach is the platform for celebrating prestigious art and the creative minds behind it, as well as becoming a hotbed for elaborate events, and decked out soirees.

An installation and performance by artist and maveric painter John Kilduff, the bG booth will be set up as the artist’s rendition of an ice cream parlor and guests will have the opportunity to have Kilduff serve up his custom ‘ice cream portraits.’

The challenge Casanova faces while working at a small scale is to create forms that, “from a distance, have the power to pull in viewers and then hold their attention with small details when they draw close.”
