James Cameron is one of the most successful directors in the history of cinema. Across several decades in the film industry, this talented Hollywood figure has brought us blockbuster hits such as The Terminator, Titanic, and Avatar

Having created several of the highest-grossing movies of all time, Cameron has amassed an impressive personal fortune, much of which he has invested in stunning real estate properties. Recently, Cameron listed his vast property in Santa Barbara County, which features ocean views, an abundance of high-end features, and ample space for luxury buyers with a passion for the outdoors.

The property, known as Tranquility Base, is located in Hollister Ranch, a 14,400-acre gated community on the Gaviota Coast. This area is known for its dramatic views, rugged coastline, scenic hiking trails, and private beaches. Other big names that hold properties in the community include the founder of Patagonia, Yvon Chouinard, and musician Jackson Browne.

Cameron’s 100-acre Gaviota property sits on a large hill overlooking the ocean and includes pastures, trails, gardens, a 24,000-square-foot equestrian facility, and multiple barns. Tranquility Base is also energy-efficient, with on-site solar panels and wind generators.

The compound offers both a main house and a guest house. The main house’s exquisite combination of wood and glass characterizes the rustic 8,000-square-foot abode. The five-bedroom, seven-bathroom home seamlessly blends indoor and outdoor living with glass ceilings and earthy materials. Cameron wrote portions of Avatar and its sequel while the home’s remarkable vistas captivated and inspired him.

The open-concept great room with high vaulted ceilings boasts astounding views of the surrounding shoreline. Cameron, a noted animal lover, keeps military-grade binoculars at the estate to view local wildlife.

The kitchen is one of the home’s centerpieces. It is equipped with modern appliances, including a Wolf Range and Sub-Zero refrigerator, as well as custom lighting and cabinetry. The kitchen connects to a comfortable dining area that offers panoramic views of the property.

Two executive offices, an exercise room, a media room, and a game room are exceptional features that further distinguish the main house. Outside, palm trees surround a luxurious lagoon-style pool and hot tub with a paved patio nearby for outdoor dining and entertainment.

The property has plenty more to offer. It comes with a full-size tennis court, large vegetable gardens, and several fruit trees. The guest residence is on a large hill overlooking the property and the scenic beach below, and four caretaker apartments are near the equestrian facility.

Cameron and his wife, Suzy Amis Cameron, purchased the estate 24 years ago for $4.375 million, and the property has undergone substantial renovations and enhancements under their ownership. Emily Kellenberger of Village Properties/Forbes Global Properties and Jeff Kruthers of Hollister Ranch Realty have this one-of-a-kind Southern California dream listed for $33 million.
