Being a professional athlete certainly has its perks, and rarely is that clearer than when a current or former professional athlete lists their home on the market. One of the latest legendary athletes to list their high-end homes is Chris Chelios, the Hockey Hall of Fame defenseman, who recently listed his stylish Malibu mansion for a whopping $75 million.

Chelios is an NHL icon, having won three Stanley Cups throughout his NHL career. In 2003, he purchased 28026 Sea Lane Drive in Malibu, California for $6 million. Now, after twenty years of owning the home, he has listed it for more than 12 times his purchase price.

28026 Sea Lane Drive is a stunning, gated beachfront home at the end of a cul-de-sac. The stylish and contemporary property, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, has multiple living spaces across several levels, including a large guesthouse.

The main house offers four bedrooms, four-and-a-half bathrooms, and 3,795 square feet of interior space. Upon entering the home, visitors will immediately be struck by the incredible views in the living area. A vanishing wall of glass showcasing panoramic ocean views runs the room’s length. An expansive deck, an ideal place to enjoy a Malibu sunset, is just beyond this wall.

The spacious kitchen has a built-in breakfast nook, bar-style seating for entertaining guests, wraparound counters, custom cabinetry, a tile backsplash, and modern appliances, including a small wine fridge. The dining area includes skylights and more breathtaking ocean views.

A loft-style, ocean-view bedroom with an en suite bathroom is upstairs, and the other three bedrooms, including the palatial primary bedroom, are on the lower levels. The primary bedroom massive room has large windows that run its length and look out on the ocean, as well as a spacious private balcony. The massive en-suite bathroom has a huge walk-in glass shower, a sleek ocean-view spa bath, and dual vanities.

The home’s spacious and open fully finished lower level has infinite potential. It currently houses a bonus/sleeping room and a family/media room but could be customized to a new owner’s preferences. Large sliding glass doors lead to the home’s exterior.

A private stairway leads to the detached guest house. It is just steps from the beach and has its own full kitchen, living area overlooking the water, bathroom, and bedroom. Atop the guest bungalow is a large, covered deck with a built-in barbecue, and to the side is another sweeping deck with a fireplace, hot tub, barrel spa, and ample room for seating. Just outside the guest house’s sliding glass doors is a third deck overlooking the ocean with stairs that descend directly to the beach.

Chelios listed the property mere weeks ago, and finding a buyer for such a high-budget home may take time. But this stunning Malibu estate has much to offer the right buyer, from its incredible ocean views and sleek interior design to its incredible outdoor spaces ideal for unwinding in the Malibu sun.
