Philadelphia’s iconic streets have served as the backdrop for numerous movies, and many renowned actors and actresses have proudly hailed from the City of Brotherly Love. The city’s cinematic legacy is strong, and each year, thousands of industry insiders, celebrities, and film enthusiasts gather for a can’t-miss event: the Philadelphia Film Festival.

The Philadelphia Film Society established the Philadelphia Film Festival in 1991, and it has since blossomed into one of the top festivals in the U.S. This annual spectacle showcases Philadelphia’s incredible film culture and has screened iconic movies, from Magnolia and Silver Linings Playbook to Parasite and Nomadland. Esteemed industry names, including Aubrey Plaza, Adam McKay, and M. Night Shyamalan, are among the distinguished members of its advisory board.

The Philadelphia Film Festival will present a collection of more than 100 films from around the world, screened at various venues in the city. Guests can also look forward to engaging in panel discussions and interactive experiences with world-renowned actors, directors, and industry guests.

The Philadelphia Film Festival typically features some of the year’s most anticipated and critically acclaimed films. Festival leaders scour other top festivals such as Cannes, Sundance, and the Toronto International Film Festival to assemble a lineup of programming that appeals to a broad range of sensibilities.

While the festival has yet to announce its slate of movies, it regularly showcases awards contenders. Last year, the festival screened The Banshees of Inisherin, which went on to achieve mass critical acclaim.

Every year, the festival presents awards to the movies judged as the best. A win at the Philadelphia Film Festival can be a major stepping-stone toward a successful Hollywood career or awards campaign. The Audience Award, Best Narrative Feature, Best Documentary Feature, Best Local Feature, and Best Short Film are among the many awards given.

To be screened at the festival, a movie must not be available for streaming or online viewing, and it must never have been shown in Philadelphia before. This criterion ensures that visitors can enjoy a program featuring over 100 new movies from various nations worldwide. While the films are the main attraction, the festival’s galas and an array of other events allow attendees the opportunity to mingle with fellow film enthusiasts and industry insiders.

This year’s Philadelphia Film Festival will run from October 19th–29th. Tickets are available online, with prices ranging from $12 for individual ticket screenings to $175 for a weekend badge and $1,500 for a VIP badge. Whether you come for one movie or stay for a dozen, it will be an unforgettable experience.
