Celebrity Home Designer Jae Omar Unveils ODIN, a Masterpiece Inspired by Norse Mythology

Celebrity home designer Jae Omar has unveiled his newest creation, ODIN. This opulent property is in the exclusive Royal Oaks community of Encino, Los Angeles, which is home to celebrities like Machine Gun Kelly and Priyanka Chopra. Located across from another Omar-designed property, the Japanese-inspired ONIN, this home is a custom masterpiece that blends beauty and utility.

The home’s name and design are inspired by the Norse god, Odin, the All-father and god of war in traditional Scandinavian myths and legends. Omar was especially intrigued by Odin’s mythical story, which he considers as that of “warrior poet” that balances purpose and beauty.

“ODIN’s complex duality captured my attention right away,” said Omar. “It spoke to my own set of contrasts or juxtapositions. A deep dive revealed relatable attributes and inspiration. These things served as the building blocks of this home’s story.” Omar also hopes ODIN’s story can connect the past and the present. “The story of ODIN coming to life is a myth in itself, chronicling the power of ancient myths to influence and build our myths in the present,” he said.

It is not uncommon for Omar to center a home’s inspiration on very particular topics, as ODIN’s sister home draws inspiration from an era involving an explosion of creativity in Japan following the Onin War in the 1400s. Omar said that sometimes his ideas are obvious at the start, and sometimes they only fully come together at the end of the process. “I marvel at connections still being made sometimes months after the home is finished,” he said. “I suppose in that way, not only am I writing the story, but it begins to write itself…”

ODIN features furnishings from Molteni&C and interior artwork and sculptures from Creative Art Partners and D2 Art. The main home has eight bedrooms, 11.5 bathrooms, and nearly 18,000 square feet of space. The property also includes a guest house with one bedroom and bathroom.

Aside from mythology, the home focuses on Scandinavia’s classic principles of design, which include functionality and craftsmanship. The home’s entry features Scandinavian-inspired woodwork and floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light. An open-concept design seamlessly connects one room to another, creating a fluid and harmonious living space.

Omar noted that every flourish on the property fulfills a utilitarian purpose. “Honestly, beauty without purpose is not really design, in my opinion. The best type of beauty achieves or provides something for the user beyond aesthetics. Every inch of ODIN is a lesson in this,” shared Omar.

The home’s materials, including cedar, oak, and rustic stones, were extracted from or inspired by Scandinavia, with the goal of best representing the region and its background. Omar thinks of all these materials as contributors to ODIN’s broader story. “The aromatic cedar, knotty oak, and rustic stones were all extracted or influenced by the Scandinavian region, interacting with one another to tell ODIN’s myth,” he said.

ODIN’s interior includes several standout features. The gourmet kitchen offers top-of-the-line appliances, custom-designed seamless cabinetry, and a commanding center island. It boasts breathtaking walls of glass that overlook and provide access to the lush surrounding property. The home also includes a bowling alley, a wine closet with oak bottle holders intended to match the floor and beams, and a custom-curated mythology library, with all books in it dating back over 100 years.

Omar’s favorite feature of this stunning property is the one-of-a-kind powder room. “ODIN is so bold and refined, like the deity, and that is most evident in the powder room where oversized 200-year-old beams disappear into rough plaster walls, all surrounding a rough plank of oak with a perfectly tailored vessel sink sitting atop. The sink bears the poetic verse from Viking history,” said Omar.

The home is ideally positioned along the water, showcasing impeccable natural surroundings. Its exterior design perfectly complements the inherent beauty of its setting. ODIN comes with a sports court, a junior Olympic pool, a 4,500-pound rock fire pit that took nine hours to set, and a spa. The tiered yard creates a Zen atmosphere with an area dedicated to yoga and meditation and a raised organic garden. ODIN leans into this sense of tranquility with an indoor-outdoor wellness spa containing a fitness area, massage area, sauna, steam room, and plunge pool.

Jae Omar intends for ODIN’s story, complex personality, and impeccable detail to have a distinct impact on both residents and visitors. “My entire life is weaving stories that manifest physically in my homes. This entire process is meant to do one thing: engage your emotions. I can’t dictate what you feel. But you will ‘feel’ when you come here,” said Omar.

This property has recently been listed for $22,995,000 and will be one of the most sought-after homes on the Los Angeles market.
