Brooklyn is a bustling New York City borough known for its captivating historical background, vibrant arts scene, and trendy restaurants. 9 Chapel, a stunning new condominium in the heart of Downtown Brooklyn, will add to the ranks of luxurious residential developments in the community.
Sales have recently launched for the 14-story development offering 27 residences. Scheduled to be completed this year, 9 Chapel has been thoughtfully designed by the design-driven development firm Tankhouse and architecture firm SO-IL. The building stands out with its distinctive facade—shimmering, folded metal that not only adds a contemporary, industrial appearance but also pays homage to the rich and unique history of Brooklyn.
“With this unique site, we had the one-of-a-kind opportunity to build something that would have an intimate relationship with its surroundings while simultaneously pushing the design envelope to establish a new architectural landmark for the neighborhood,” said Sam Alison-Mayne and Sebastian Mendez, co-founders of Tankhouse.
The available units range in size from one to four bedrooms. These units, with interiors designed by SO-IL, are particularly unique, especially in an urban environment. Residents will pass through open-air covered breezeways, similar to a front porch, to enter their homes. The units themselves are designed to have seamless cohesion between their interiors and the outdoors, with high ceilings allowing substantial natural light to pass through their oversized picture windows, at least two exposures, and a dedicated outdoor space, such as an uncovered terrace or a loggia.
“Nine Chapel is for the buyer who appreciates incredible design, craftsmanship and attention to detail — all without sacrificing New Yorkers’ most-requested home feature: private outdoor space,” said Leslie Marshall of the Cornell Marshall Team at Corcoran New Development, the exclusive sales and marketing agent for the building.
The quality design and craftsmanship of each unit are apparent throughout their interiors, with wide-plank oak floors, a full suite of Bosch appliances, and primary bathrooms with custom flooring and showers with dark green mosaic tiles. Some kitchens even have a custom white oak butcher block-topped island, adding a desirable aesthetic and space for cooking or hosting guests. Sustainability is a key theme in the units as well, with energy-efficient appliances, insulated windows and glass doors.
Tankhouse and SO-IL are collaborating with global design company GUBI for the model residence and communal spaces. Custom-curated furniture from GUBI will add to 9 Chapel’s incredible aesthetic. “9 Chapel is a building made of spaces that blur the boundaries between indoors and out, full of air and light. It is in these transitional spaces that the GUBI Collection comes to life – pieces that were conceived precisely for settings such as this, where interior and exterior meet and merge,” says GUBI’s Chief Brand Officer, Marie Kristine Schmidt.
Residence interiors will reflect the building’s architectural themes, with exposed concrete elements, stylish custom islands topped with butcher block in select homes, and oversized windows that not only allow for cross-ventilation but also provide scenic views of the surrounding neighborhood.
9 Chapel’s luxurious amenities for residents will make it one of the most desirable condominiums in Brooklyn. A state-of-the-art fitness center with floor-to-ceiling windows and dedicated bike storage accessible by a ramped entrance will help curate an active lifestyle, and a shared lounge fosters a sense of community.
Brooklyn, a flourishing part of New York City, has evolved into one of the most desirable areas to live in the country, and buildings like 9 Chapel are a significant reason why. With timeless style, upscale amenities, and abundant indoor and outdoor space for residents, this building is a true gem in the borough. Given the appeal, units are expected to sell quickly. Pricing begins at $1,040,000 for a one-bedroom residence.
“We proudly present 9 Chapel, our second multifamily venture in Brooklyn,” said Florian Idenburg, co-founding partner of SO-IL. “In collaboration with Tankhouse, our shared ambition to reshape urban living remains firm. Leveraging the particular characteristics of this site, we introduce an innovative concept: a collection of homes dynamically connected with their surroundings. This presents an exceptional and vibrant approach to 21st-century living in New York.”
