There may be no city in the United States that has seen its profile surge more in the past couple of decades than Austin. While always a lively and thriving city, Austin has quickly become one of America’s boom towns. Georgetown

Georgetown is a city north of Austin, home to 75,000. While only a 30-minute drive from Austin, this mid-sized city doesn’t have the congestion of the big city, and real estate options are slightly more affordable.

Georgetown is a scenic and historic town with a picturesque town square and numerous great parks and museums. It has been ranked #1 on Southern Living magazine’s South’s Best Places to Live in 2018 list due to its charming look and excellent food scene. It is an excellent option for those willing to commute to Austin.

Wimberley

Wimberley is a small town is home to around 3,000 that is located around 45 minutes outside of Austin. Wimberley provides a quieter lifestyle and a more relaxed pace, with a welcoming community of friendly residents.

The Square is an area of the town with great restaurants and stores, where much of the commerce is concentrated. Wimberley also has some of the most famous swimming holes in Texas, with Jacob’s Well and Blue Hole attracting visitors from across the state.

Round Rock

Round Rock is one of Austin’s major suburbs, and more than 120,000 people call this city home. A popular destination in Round Rock is the large Round Rock the town is named for, which was an important site for travelers in the 1800s. Today, it is a hub for outdoor recreation.

Old Settlers Park is one of the best outdoor areas to explore in Round Rock, a 645-acre park with sports complexes, hiking trails, and even a lake full of fish. Round Rock is a safe place with a burgeoning economy, making it the ideal place to settle down.

Liberty Hill

Liberty Hill is a small rural community roughly a 45-minute drive to Austin. This quiet town offers a much different pace than Austin, with a peaceful feel and a small population. Less than 5,000 people live in this town, but the community is open and welcoming.

Liberty Hill is known for having excellent schools, great local parks, and even high-quality art. Liberty Hill has a renowned sculpture garden featuring works from international creators that is worth visiting.

Lakeway

Lakeway is a suburb outside of Austin located along the blue waters of Lake Travis. This mid-sized city of roughly 20,000 is only a 35-minute drive to Austin’s city center but has plenty to do within its city limits.

If you love the outdoors, there’s plenty to explore in and around Lakeway. The Lakeway Marina is where many residents keep their boats, and the waters are often filled with locals. Homes do not come cheap here, but the opportunity to own houses on the waters of one of Texas’s most beautiful lakes is hard to pass up.

Hutto

Hutto is a mid-sized city that has seen significant growth over the years as Austin has surged alongside it. Now, this town of around 27,000 is a quickly developing community, and according to the city of Hutto’s website, has been recognized as the top place in Texas to raise a family.

It is a town with primarily young millennial residents, excellent schools, and many businesses. Just a 30-minute drive into the heart of Austin, Hutto is ideally located. It is also considered a safe city and has a quirky but fun feel. It is an excellent place to call home, with a charming downtown and many real estate options.
