Echo Mountain is the closest ski area to Denver. Situated just 36 miles from downtown, it takes less than an hour to reach this gorgeous destination. Upon arrival, skiers and snowboarders are greeted by incredible mountain vistas, and this resort is known for being affordable and family-friendly. 

Echo Mountain primarily offers intermediate-level ski trails, with three lifts and seven runs. Novices are advised to stay around the beginner-level area until they become more proficient and move on to the more challenging trails. The massive Loveland Ski Area can be found just an hour’s drive from Denver. They offer shuttle services to and from the city, so getting there is a breeze, and skiers and snowboarders will be struck by its vast offerings.

Loveland Ski Area offers more than 1,800 acres of incredible ski terrain, with nine lifts to help visitors get around this vast space. It has a 2,210-foot vertical drop, two separate base areas, and terrain for all skill levels within its 94 trails. West of Boulder, just over an hour from Denver, is Eldora Mountain Resort. Serving Colorado residents for 60 years and counting, this family-friendly resort provides dining options, ski schools, and plenty of unique terrain to explore. 

Ikon pass holders receive unlimited access to this lovely resort, which offers 680 acres of skiable terrain and an elevation of 10,600 feet at its highest point. There is also a terrain park for adrenaline junkies and trails that cater to all experience levels, and its excellent snowmaking system creates ideal conditions throughout the season. The gorgeous Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, in Colorado’s Arapaho National Forest, is roughly an hour and a half from Denver. This major ski area provides shuttles to and from the city and is known for its long season, which extends into the early summer.

Also known as A-Basin, this area is known for its challenging terrain and draws in many advanced skiers and snowboarders. It has been open since 1946 and provides more than 1,400 skiable acres and nine lifts. It has an extremely high elevation, with the summit at more than 13,000 feet, making it the third-highest ski area peak on the continent. With 147 trails, and 73% of them catered toward advanced skiers and snowboarders, it is ideal for long-time ski and snowboard fanatics.
