Several annual traditions embody the typical Toronto summer. However, none are more closely associated with the season than the world-famous Canadian National Exhibition (CNE), better known by most Torontonians as the Ex. This year, the Ex returns for another continuation of one of North America’s biggest and longest-running fairs.

The Ex is a huge festival that runs through the final phase of the summer. This year, the Ex will begin on August 18th and end on September 4th. Established in 1879, the CNE has grown into the largest annual fair in Canada and one of the biggest on the continent, with a typical attendance of around 1.5 million people. The Ex takes place at Exhibition Place, a vast multi-use area on the shores of Lake Ontario. As one of Toronto’s most illustrious traditions, this year’s iteration should bring even more wonder and excitement.

The Ex offers multiple attractions and activities catering to people of all ages and interests. It provides family-friendly fun and showcases Toronto’s incredible diversity and history.

For some, the main attractions will be the rides and games. The Ex is a classic fair with dozens of rides ranging from heart-stopping, adrenaline-inducing thrillers to more laid-back options that accommodate younger audiences. The CNE will also feature timeless carnival games with fun prizes.

The Ex is famous for its delectable, ground-breaking festival fare. Notable one-of-a-kind creations in the past have included two-foot-long tacos, mac and cheese lemonade, and spicy ice cream. Dozens of vendors will feature their offerings at the food stalls throughout the Ex. This year will also bring back Food Truck Frenzy and Craft Beerfest. This vast area will feature an array of food trucks, numerous local craft breweries, and live music.

The Ex is a renowned captivating extravaganza. There will be numerous performances throughout the festival’s 18-day run, ranging from musicians to acrobats and more. Although organizers have not announced the lineup, the festival typically attracts famous musical artists as headliners. The Ex will feature a variety of international performers, including dancers from locations such as Transylvania and Mexico. Attendees can also look forward to captivating acrobatic acts, enchanting choirs, and a plethora of other enthralling performances.

Visitors will find no shortage of attractions at the CNE. This wide-ranging event will have exhibits, competitions, shopping opportunities, and sporting events. The exhilarating Canadian International Air Show will feature the brave pilots of the Canadian Forces Snowbirds and the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. There will also be a horse show, an area centered on agriculture and urban farming, a casino, a dog show, a silent disco, a kid’s zone, and so much more.

You can purchase tickets for the Canadian National Exhibition online, with a variety of options available. You are also able to purchase tickets at the gate, but the Ex is a wildly popular event, and large crowds and lines can be expected.
