South Carolina’s Sea Islands region comprises dozens of barrier islands scattered along the coast. From large islands serving as major tourist destinations to gorgeous uninhabited islands, they are historic, charming, and wildly popular summer destinations. Let’s explore why the Sea Islands have become some of South Carolina’s most sought-out tourist hotspots.

Scenic Settings and Outdoor Recreation

If you are looking for stunning coastal scenery, serene marshes with winding waterways, and sandy beaches, there aren’t many better places than the Sea Islands. The Sea Islands contain picturesque places to enjoy South Carolina’s summer heat, including Fripp Island, Harbor Island, and Daufuskie Island, which all offer excellent beaches removed from the massive crowds of the Grand Strand.

For outdoor activities, the area offers boat rentals and marinas filled with watercraft of all sizes, and anglers flock there to enjoy fishing for large catches in the Broad River, the Atlantic Ocean, and surrounding waterways. This region is also a paradise for golf enthusiasts. Some of the best courses in the state can be found on the Sea Islands, and Hilton Head’s numerous courses are the biggest standout.
