Austin annually hosts South by Southwest (SXSW), a massive festival attracting influential figures such as famed musicians, movie stars, business titans, and trendsetters.
SXSW is a music festival, film festival, conference, comedy festival, and much more. Much like the eclectic and exciting city of Austin itself, this one-of-a-kind experience attracts enormous crowds of visitors. Scheduled to run from March 8th to 16th, SXSW events take place across the city, with the Austin Convention Center serving as the festival’s epicenter.
The Conference portion of the event features 24 different “tracks,” involving panel discussions covering a wide array of topics. In these discussions, experts address pressing issues of our time, such as artificial intelligence, climate change, health, technology, and more.
While the final lineup of speakers has yet to be formally announced, it is already known that Jane Fonda, Dwayne Wade, The Black Keys, Rosario Dawson, and Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshani are expected to speak at the event.
The SXSW Music Festival features musicians from across the globe. It offers something for everyone, from The Black Keys and Kneecap to emerging artists like Rawayana and Giovanni & the Hired Guns. This festival stands out for its wide range of genres on display.
For cinema lovers, the SXSW Film and TV Festival is a highlight of the year. It provides exclusive previews of some of the most anticipated movies and shows of 2024. This year’s lineup includes 3 Body Problem, the new show from the creators of Game of Thrones; The Fall Guy, a Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt action comedy; and Road House, Jake Gyllenhaal’s upcoming action remake. These are just a glimpse of the numerous featured movies and shows across categories ranging from comedy and action to horror and animation.
The Exhibitions portion is another captivating aspect of this unique event. It offers a platform to explore new technological advancements and fascinating art in unconventional mediums. Key highlights to note include the Creative Industries Expo, showcasing brands and services shaping the future; Flatstock 92, an art exhibition centered around poster-making; and XR Experience, an immersive digital exposition displaying the latest in Virtual and Augmented Reality. Officials plan to announce performers for the Comedy Festival later in the season.
