Housing much of the Wasatch Range, Utah’s massive alpine terrain, combined with the state’s ideal skiing conditions, attracts skiers and snowboarders from across the U.S.

Utah has some of the top ski resorts in the U.S., ranging from small, family-run operations to world-famous destinations. 

Brian Head Resort

Brian Head Resort, in Southern Utah, brings visitors from across the Southwest. This massive ski resort is near Duck Creek Village, one of Utah’s most popular small towns. It has 71 trails, eight lifts, and multiple terrain parks spread across several peaks, catering to skiers and snowboarders of all experience levels. The resort provides comfortable lodging options, high-quality dining destinations, pubs, and cafes. Brian Head also offers night skiing for a unique experience and is widely considered the top ski option in Southern Utah.

Sundance Mountain Resort

Sundance Mountain Resort, founded and previously owned by Robert Redford, is one of the most famous ski resorts in the U.S. Not only is it a high-quality resort with top-of-the-line lodging and dining options, but it also hosts the world-renowned Sundance Film Festival. All that aside, skiers and snowboarders there can enjoy 72 runs, more than 540 skiable acres, nine lifts, and multiple terrain parks.

Deer Valley Resort

Deer Valley is another iconic Utah resort near Park City, with easy access from Heber City and Kamas. It is a huge ski-only resort that has a lot to offer within its many peaks, including 103 trails, 21 lifts, and seven bowls. Staff members offer ski lessons to help beginners learn the ropes, and the resort has challenging terrain for advanced skiers. There are also several restaurants serving up high-quality, upscale options.

Park City Mountain Resort

Arguably Utah’s most famous ski area, Park City Mountain Resort is also the biggest in the country. The U.S. Ski Team trains there, and it is internationally renowned for hosting the 2002 Winter Olympics. It caters to more experienced skiers and snowboarders, but there is something for everyone across its vast expanse of 7,300 skiable acres and more than 330 ski trails. Park City also has high-end dining and lodging options and a lively village for après ski fun. Getting to this resort is convenient to several nearby Utah towns, including Heber City, Kamas, and Salt Lake City.

Alta Ski Area

Alta is a massive ski area in the Wasatch Mountains near Salt Lake City. Skiing conditions are perfect here, where more than 500 inches of snow falls annually. Alta has more than 2,600 acres of skiable terrain, six lifts, 118 runs, and its ideal setting and steep vertical drop add to its popularity. Alta also has excellent lodges, condos, and chalets, as well as numerous delicious grills, bars, and cafes.
