Stretching for more than 138,000 acres, Lake Winnebago is the largest inland lake in Wisconsin. Encompassing almost 10,000 acres, Lake Mendota is the largest of the five lakes in Madison, Wisconsin’s capital city. It is popular for winter sports when it freezes over, but in the summer, visitors fill its boat launches, marinas, and sandy beaches.
