The Whistler Film Festival (WFF) will return on December 4th, transforming Whistler into a vibrant hub of cinematic celebration. This annual festival attracts filmmakers, actors, and cinephiles from around the globe for five days of world-class film screenings, exclusive premieres, and engaging industry events.
Since its inception in 2001, WFF has evolved from a modest showcase of independent Canadian films into one of North America’s premier film festivals. Its mission is to celebrate distinct voices in film while enhancing Whistler’s cultural prestige. By championing Canadian filmmakers and weaving in global talent, WFF presents stories that captivate and inspire audiences.
The festival’s intimate atmosphere sets it apart, fostering meaningful connections between creators and attendees. Over the years, WFF has expanded its reach, offering over $188,500 in cash and prizes, making it a must-attend event for both emerging and established filmmakers.
WFF24 has expanded its programming to include a broader range of films, balancing playful and entertaining options with thought-provoking and diverse stories. In addition to growing popular categories like ShortWorks, Mountain Culture, and World Documentary, the festival has introduced new strands such as Play It Loud! (music-themed films), Country of Focus, Films On Tap (interactive experiences), and Movies You Missed.
This year’s festival promises its most star-studded lineup yet, with films featuring celebrated actors such as Jennifer Lopez, Hugh Grant, and Robbie Williams. Attendees can look forward to 118 films, including multiple world premieres and Oscar contenders, such as the opening night feature The Last Showgirl, starring Pamela Anderson, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Dave Bautista.
Beyond the films, WFF offers a range of immersive experiences, including lively après events, intimate talent talks, and engaging Q&A sessions with filmmakers. Running parallel to the film festival itself, the Content Summit, a cornerstone for industry insiders, features panels, workshops, and one-on-one networking sessions.
WFF24 spotlights Ireland as the Country of Focus, celebrating Irish cinema through the Emerald Lens Initiative. This special program will showcase a curated selection of Irish films while exploring co-production opportunities between Canadian and Irish filmmakers.
Among the most anticipated premieres is Universal Language, Canada’s Oscar contender by acclaimed director Matthew Rankin. Another standout is Unstoppable, an inspiring true story starring Jharrel Jerome and Jennifer Lopez, which chronicles an athlete’s remarkable triumph over adversity.
Tickets and passes are available directly on the Whistler Film Festival website, with a variety of options to suit every attendee, including individual movie and event tickets, as well as several packages. Film Packs, allowing admission to three, six, or 10 film presentations, cost $55, $99, and $160, respectively. Industry Passes start at $450, and for $79, the Online Networking Pass provides exclusive access to virtual meetings and roundtable discussions.
