The Willamette Valley is a 150-mile stretch of land in the heart of Oregon. While it might not encompass a significant percentage of Oregon’s area, the Willamette Valley is home to the five largest cities in the state and around 70% of Oregon’s population. It stands out as one of the country’s most desirable places to live.

The Willamette Valley has so much to offer residents, from bustling urban cities to quaint small towns. From its days as a destination for those seeking a better life along the Oregon Trail to the present day, Willamette Valley has always stood out as an attractive place to reside. Let’s look at why.

Natural Beauty

The Willamette Valley might be where most of Oregon’s population is concentrated, but don’t expect some major urban sprawl throughout. The Willamette Valley is surrounded by mountains, including the Cascade Mountains and the Oregon Coast Range. There are stunning mountainous views and trails for intrepid hikers.

Also, the Willamette River flows along the valley from Portland to Eugene. It is one of the biggest rivers in the country and is popular amongst anglers, swimmers, and boaters. Willamette Falls is a massive waterfall that is the largest in the Northwest. Willamette Valley also has forests and grassland, making it a naturally diverse area with so much beauty to take in.

Food and Drink

Willamette Valley is famous for its wine production. Willamette Valley has over two-thirds of all the vineyards and wineries in Oregon, with 19,000+ acres of vineyard. It is famed for its production of pinot noir, but you can sample a massive array of wines from internationally renowned producers in this region.

While the Willamette Valley might be best known for its wine, the food scene here is just as good. With all five of Portland’s biggest cities, Willamette Valley is where you’ll find most of the state’s top restaurants and dining options. Because Willamette Valley is a major agricultural hub, the farm-to-table food scene here is incredible.

Economic Opportunities

One of the most significant factors most people consider when they move to a new place is the area’s economy. Moving to a place with a robust local economy and significant job providers helps pave the way to a successful career. In Willamette Valley, an array of major companies headquartered here offer high-paying, prestigious jobs to qualified candidates.

Some significant employers headquartered in the Willamette Valley include Nike, Columbia Sportswear, StanCorp Financial Group, and Precision Castparts. These are all companies that employ thousands in the region. Portland is also home to an emerging tech scene. The city is positioned as a hub for leading future innovators.

Characteristics that stand out most about the Willamette Valley are the culture and entertainment options. This region has several major cities offering excellent museums, galleries, shows, and more. It is an area that hosts some must-see sites and an ever-shifting calendar of festivals, concerts, and more.

Portland is home to the famed Washington Park, which houses the Oregon Zoo and Japanese Garden. It also has a vibrant art scene. Eugene is a haven for athletes and outdoor enthusiasts with a trendy downtown. Salem is the state capital and has some of Oregon’s best art and history museums. Every city and town in this region is different, with renowned culture, attractions, and entertainment.
