Return of Tanglewood

Tanglewood is a venue like no other, with a beautiful setting in the Berkshire Hills. It is a gorgeous location with so much to offer, and every year it plays host to one of Massachusetts’ most spectacular traditions. When the season turns to summer, the Boston Symphony Orchestra migrates from its setting in the city to bring its incredible talents to this stunning backdrop. With them comes a summer full of incredible programming featuring incredible live performances from some of the biggest artists on the planet.

Unfortunately, a full summer of Tanglewood programming had been off the table for the past several years due to the pandemic, but this summer, it is back. For the first time since 2019, Tanglewood will play home to an entire summer of musical experiences. From June 17th-September 4th, there will be live experiences at incredible venues. Tanglewood has multiple settings, including the primary venue at the Koussevitzky Music Shed and Studio E, the Linde Center for Music and Learning, and more.

Tanglewood offers a blend of indoor and outdoor settings for acoustics, and with a history dating back nearly 90 years, it is a proud tradition. This year, the Tanglewood lineup is incredibly exciting. To kick things off, legendary Beatles drummer Ringo Starr will open the festivities, performing with his “All-Starr Band” on June 17th.

There will be numerous other big names and talented performers gracing the stage throughout the summer. Some of the notable performances lined up include Bonnie Raitt, The Black Crowes, Earth, Wind, & Fire, James Taylor, Van Morrison, and more. There will also be consistent performances from the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Western Massachusetts has missed Tanglewood. This is one of the defining traditions of the area, and for two straight years, the summer festivities were unable to happen. This event draws big crowds out to one of the most picturesque locations in the state and brings incredible performers to a one-of-a-kind venue. It has a history dating back to the 1930s, and 2022 will mark another great year of Tanglewood.

Western Massachusetts Picturesque Appeal

Tanglewood helps spotlight one incredible area in Western Massachusetts, but there is much more to this region than that. Let’s look at some of the beautiful counties in the region that are appealing places to make a home.

Berkshire County is the site of Tanglewood, but this area is also one of the best places in the state to explore. This county is picturesque, bordering New York on the far west end of the state. The Berkshire Hills are an area in the county with some of the best hiking trails in the state, a popular destination for summer homes. With large lakes, this area is a haven for boaters, anglers, and lovers of the great outdoors.

Franklin County is situated northeast of Berkshire, a sparsely populated area with abundant nature and quaint New England towns. It is the third least populated county in the state and comprises several quiet towns and cities. One of these towns is Greenfield; a city first settled in the 17th century. It is a small but growing community with a pleasant downtown district with quaint shops and delicious dining options.

Hampshire County is another Western Massachusetts County with a lot to offer. It includes several significant cities and points of interest and is known for its great agriculture and famed farm-to-table food scene. It has winding waterways like the Connecticut River and deep forests, perfect for hiking and dirt biking. There are also towns like Amherst, known for exciting festivals and having a young college town vibe. Hampshire County has something for everyone.

Lastly, Hampden County is an area that can trace its history back centuries. It is located near Worcester, one of the biggest cities in the state, but includes several significant cities within the county as well. Springfield is a large city on the Connecticut River, most notable as the home to the Basketball Hall of Fame. Chicopee is a pleasant college town that also hosts the Westover Air Base, which is the annual Great New England Air Show site. It is a picturesque and historic town with tons to do and see.
