New York City is a place with a one-of-a-kind design, a congested city filled with towering skyscrapers built on the water. The design of New York is an integral part of what makes it one of the world’s most beloved cities, and it is honored by the numerous museums and design studios that inhabit the city. New York City may be the world’s design capital, and one significant event is intended to celebrate and spotlight the accomplishments of New York City’s design community. This event is the NYCxDESIGN Festival, also known as The Festival.

The Festival is put on by NYCxDESIGN, a non-profit whose goal is to empower and provide a platform for the city’s diverse creative community. Started by the city in 2013, it has blossomed into a powerful entity that offers opportunities to a huge number of people involved in New York’s design industry. NYCxDESIGN will host numerous events and panels throughout the year and have programming intended to highlight the city’s creators. But no event is bigger than the NYCxDESIGN Festival, which attracts a global audience.

The festival is a huge occasion that has been running for ten years. Unfortunately, after building huge positive momentum from 2013-19, the pandemic dampened the proceedings. COVID-19 greatly disrupted the 2020 and 2021 iterations of the event, but 2022 marks a return to normalcy. This version of the event will be the 10th anniversary of the festival and will take place at the regularly scheduled time.

The festival will be running from May 10th-20th at locations across the city. Areas like SoHo, Tribeca, Brooklyn, and more will be having special events for this exciting occasion. It will attract a global audience of design enthusiasts to celebrate a one-of-a-kind festival experience that shows the diversity and reach the New York design community can offer.

There are numerous components to this event that set it apart. It is intended to celebrate design accomplishments, inspire through creation, and start conversations, and it is a very open event with a lot to see. Numerous galleries and studios in several districts of the city will be opening their doors for design displays and demonstrations. This will be a great way to explore the authentic design community of the city, one gallery and studio at a time.

There will also be immersive and engaging public design displays throughout the city. Design Pavilion will launch around the city to celebrate the festival. Design Pavilion is a public design exposition located in Times Square and around the city. This year’s display is entitled Open to the Sky and will have a message of hope, inclusivity, and diversity. The designs will have unique and interactive elements and be found in various iconic New York locations.

This week also encompasses several design trade shows, so visitors will have a large spectrum of potential activities to take part in. One of those trade shows will be the ICFF, which spotlights contemporary furnishing design. The ICFF will occur from May 15th-17th at the Javits Center and bring together over 300 brands from more than 25 countries. The ICFF will spotlight contemporary designs for commercial, residential, and hospitality environments and attract over 10,000 spectators.
