National Cherry Blossom Festival

Springtime is one of the most beautiful times of the year, and this is especially true for DC. The National Cherry Blossom Festival, which will take place from March 20 – April 13, celebrates the bloom season as well as the rich history associated with Japanese culture.

The Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates the gifting of 3,000 cherry trees by the previous mayor of Tokyo to the U.S.

The National Park Service (NPS), which manages the National Mall and issues the “peak bloom” each year, is anticipated to announce its prediction on March 6, 2019, as reported by Curbed.

In anticipation of one of the biggest spring events in DC, here are the exciting events that visitors can attend:

National Cherry Blossom Festival Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony, which takes place on March 23, kicks off the festival with world-renowned performers and a series of contemporary and traditional Japanese events.

“Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon” The Super Live
The live show, written by Nook Takeuchi, originally debuted in Japan. The 2.5D musical is an exciting entertainment experience that’s based on the popular Japanese comic book. The live show features an all-female cast and covers themes of love, justice, and friendship!

Yusaka Mochizuki (Mochi)
Mochizuki puts on a riveting performance that incorporates tap dance, video art, LED, diabolos and more.

Ikyko Kawai earned both undergrad and grad degrees at Tokyo University of the Arts. As a composer, Kawai has created music for several TV dramas, ads, and films.

Blossom Kite Festival

The Blossom Kite Festival gives adults and kids the chance to participate in one of the most anticipated spring events!

Held at the National Mall, professionals and novices show off their skills in a series of events. Two separate events include Rokkaku Battles and the Hot Tricks Showdown.

Participants have the option to bring their own kite, build it themselves, or purchase one.

The event takes place on Saturday, March 30, 2019, from 10:00 am – 4:30 pm at the Grounds of the Washington Monument near 17th St and Constitution Ave, NW.

Petalpalooza

This exciting event includes interactive art installations, larger-than-life games and activities, live music, beer garden, fireworks show, free product giveaways and more.

If you’re looking for a bite to eat, there are plenty of delicious spots to go to along The Wharf. Hottest restaurants include Brighton SW1 Bar & Tavern, Canopy Central Bar & Cafe, Cantina Bambina, and Del Mar de Fabio Trabocchi.

National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade

The festival parade, presented by Events DC, is a vibrant springtime tradition set against traditional DC landmarks.

The fun and playful event includes giant colorful balloons, elaborate floats, marching bands, entertainers, and performers.

To get to the Metrorail, the one-mile length of the parade route is accessible from multiple Metro stations.
