Staging a home requires a keen sense of space, experience with visual and interior design, and some showmanship to maximize the desirability and value of a home. staged., founded by Kal Macdonald, is a team that strongly aligns with these traits. The firm serves builders, developers, realtors, and sellers in Calgary and the surrounding area.

Macdonald has a unique career path that led him from commercial design and space planning to performance in theater, and from performance back to residential home building and interior design. Following his career as an actor and singer in local and regional theater and on cruise lines, Macdonald settled back in Calgary, working for major home builders as an interior designer and client liaison. Taking the bold leap to go at it on his own, Kal established staged. in 2016. staged. is the fusion of Macdonald’s passion for home design and performance and is built on his years of high-level industry experience. He is supported by his team, including Doug Cheke, the creative assistant, and Melissa Wang Jackson, in marketing and project management.

According to Kal, “staged. is the intersection of two things I love the most – performance and home design. I had lived my life on stage, so staging seemed a natural fit,” – hence the name of his company. This blend of passions serves both Macdonald and his clients well. His onstage experience allows him to see his work in staging from a unique and compelling angle. “Theater is very emotion-driven and that’s what I’m always trying to get to the heart of with my clients – creating emotion! What ‘feeling’ are they hoping to create in their home?”

staged. primarily focuses on providing the following services: staging show homes for builders and developers, staging vacant homes going on the market for realtors, and speed staging for sellers. In speed staging, the staged. team visits a property and spends around three hours doing a full walk-through with the client. Throughout the walk-through, the staged. team provides valuable input and advice on what furniture and décor should be edited and tips for decluttering and depersonalizing. The goal is to bring out the home’s best features and try to address and minimize any objections a potential buyer may have. “We also want to keep in mind age of the home, the area it’s in, the price point it will be selling for, style of interior, and the demographic that would be looking to purchase in that area,” said Macdonald. If needed, staged. can rent artwork, rugs, and décor to the homeowner to enhance the home’s appeal.

This approach makes staged. stand out as an ideal option for developers, builders, realtors, and home sellers. “What makes us different is that we approach every staging as if it was a show home,” noted Macdonald. In other words, they stage a home with intentionality. The staged. team thinks deeply about how the finishes, styling, and décor coordinate with each other to create a unified, elevated look that is unique to the home and its aesthetic. All this results in homes that consistently sell faster and for more money.

Macdonald created staged. at the intersection of his two defining passions. With a career path that makes him uniquely equipped to create elevated and detailed interiors, with every detail carefully considered, Macdonald has been growing staged. since it launched.  “I see us being the go-to stager for achieving that perfect elevated look,” said Macdonald.
