Hottest Chicago Events to Attend in October

There’s no better time to celebrate Fall in Chicago than October! From pumpkin festivals to film events, here are some of the top events to check out this month.

Jack’s Pumpkin Pop-up

Rather than trekking out to the suburbs, Jack’s Pumpkin Pop-Up brings all of the neighborhood charm into the city! Complete with a corn maze and thousands of pumpkins, both kids and adults will get a kick out of this fun and exciting event!

Other perks include a hidden bar, a “gypsy caravan”, and a bunch of events such as the beer and cider festival and pumpkin walk. Located on over 2 acres of land, this fall- inspired pop-up will be around from Oct 3, 2019 to Nov 3, 2019.

Arts in the Dark

October 19, 2019

Ring in Halloween a little early with the Arts in the Dark parade! Performers, puppets, bands, lanterns, and floats will all be present in this extraordinary event.

Starting from State Street and moving south from the lake to Van Buren, this annual event includes costumes and objects all crafted by local artists. It’ll also bring together some of the most renowned art institutions like the Art Institute of Chicago and many more.

Envisioned by Mark Kelly, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events Commissioner, this artistic event is produced by LUMA8, an independent not for profit, along with DCASE and the Chicago Park District.

Pier Pumpkin Lights

Oct 1, 2019 – Nov 2, 2019

Take in this beautiful fall event with a thousand bright, glowing pumpkins spread across the Navy Pier! The first-ever Pier Pumpkin Lights will include restaurants along the pier like Bubba Gump Shrimp, Tiny Tavern, and Snow Dragon Shavery that’ll offer a bunch of food and drink specials throughout the entire month.

Also, a variety of pop-up installations will be held along the pier perfect for any age. On October 26, 27, and 31, you can even bring your kids trick or treating!

Chicago International Film Festival

Are you a film lover? Don’t miss the annual Chicago International Film Festival! Showcasing some of the hottest films on the festival circuit, this incredible event is definitely one for the books.

Founded in 1964 by Michael Kutza, it’s the longest-running competitive film festival in North America. From October 16 to October 27, you have the opportunity to see a variety of films from dramas and documentaries to comedies and more.
