British Columbia is a wonderful place to visit at any time of year, with diverse cities ranging from coastal escapes to scenic mountain towns, but the holiday season is an especially good time to visit. Many of the picturesque communities across the province are transformed into festive hotspots, with lively celebrations and ample excitement. Let’s look at some towns and cities in British Columbia that are the best places to be this holiday season.

Chilliwack

Chilliwack is a picturesque city surrounded by mountains and gorgeous bodies of water, such as the Fraser River and Cultus Lake. Chilliwack may not get as much snow as other parts of British Columbia. However, it has a holiday feel with its mountain backdrop, and the city has exciting seasonal events that make it a perfect holiday escape.

One of the highlights of the holiday experience here is the Downtown Chilliwack Country Christmas Village, which takes place throughout December. There is a holiday train with 4,000 lights, a huge Ferris wheel, live holiday entertainment, and a Christmas lights display. It is a massive celebration that provides considerable delight to all who attend.

Whistler

Whistler is one of the most popular destinations in British Columbia due to its gorgeous mountain setting. During the winter, Whistler is most popular as a skiing destination. It hosts Whistler Blackcomb, one of the biggest ski resorts on the continent, which was the venue for the 2010 Winter Olympics. The pedestrian village is a classic lodge-style area with rustic appeal, making it a scenic place to enjoy the holiday season.

There is endless family-friendly fun in Whistler during the holidays. Enjoy a massive outdoor skating rink surrounded by decorated trees in Whistler Village or partake in the Whistler Holiday Experience indoor family fun zone with seasonal treats, children’s activities, and a free mini putt course. The Christmas Eve Carol Service is a wholesome holiday event consisting of traditional songs and readings performed by community members. It is a lovely setting with a big festive atmosphere.

Victoria

Victoria is British Columbia’s capital, a coastal gem on the south end of Vancouver Island. Victoria rarely sees significant snowfall, but that doesn’t change this city’s status as an appealing holiday town. The year-round mild temperatures only enhance Victoria’s holiday spirit, and the numerous events throughout the holiday season provide endless family excitement.

One of the best ways to explore Victoria over the holidays is with a romantic horse-drawn tour through the city’s scenic downtown, which is decorated heavily with lights and holiday colors for the season. Experience The Magic of Christmas, a gorgeous light display, at the Butchart Gardens. Also, one of the iconic holiday sights in Victoria is the Parliament Buildings, which are covered in glowing lights and have a massive Christmas tree standing outside. It is a beautiful backdrop for a holiday getaway in British Columbia’s capital.
