On September 7th, 21st, and 28th, Honolulu, Hawaii, will host Aloha Festivals, comprising three highly anticipated signature events. Sponsored by major players in the hospitality industry, these festivities draw crowds of over 100,000.
At the heart of Aloha Festivals is a mission to keep the Aloha spirit alive by showcasing Hawaii’s culture, traditions, and customs. Every year, thousands of volunteers, along with sponsorships, private donations, and community support, make these celebrations possible.
On September 7th, the Investiture of the Royal Court took place at the Royal Hawaiian’s Helumoa Gardens, involving a stately ceremony featuring Hawaii’s reigning chiefs adorned in traditional regalia. The same day, the Opening Ceremony showcased musical performances and hula dances, setting the tone for the festival.
On September 21st, Kalakaua Avenue will come alive with the Waikiki Ho’olaule’a, the most anticipated event of Aloha Festivals. This beachfront block party features arts, eats, and live entertainment. The avenue will be lined with booths and vendors offering artisan crafts, mouthwatering island cuisines, and other treats. Bring your family to enjoy performances by talented entertainers, including popular halau hula dancers. The stages will present a mix of traditional Hawaiian melodies and contemporary tunes.
The celebrations culminate on September 28th with the 76th Annual Floral Parade, proceeding from Ala Moana Park along Kalakaua Avenue to Kapi’olani Park. This vibrant procession will feature floral-themed floats, horse-drawn carriages, halau hula performances, pa’u riders, and marching bands.
For 2024, the Aloha Festivals embrace the theme “ʻAʻa I Ka Hula,” inspired by the Hawaiian saying, “When one wants to dance the hula, bashfulness should be left at home.” This year’s festivities emphasize the preservation of hula, with more interactive experiences and performances designed to engage and educate attendees about this cherished tradition.
Aloha Festivals events are free and open to the public.
