Denver Day-Trip Excursions for Summer 2020

Located in the Rocky Mountains, Denver is a city with endless opportunities. While there’s a lot to explore in the city, it’s always fun to take a trip to a nearby park or explore incredible mountains. We have gathered the three hottest day-trip excursions from Denver for your perfect getaway!

Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre

Even though there are no “traditional” concerts and events happening at Red Rocks Amphitheatre during this pandemic, it is still an amazing place to visit. Red Rocks Amphitheatre is an open-air amphitheater built into the rock structures in Red Rocks Park located in Morrison, Colorado, only a 25-minute drive from Denver. Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater is an amazing place to visit to go hiking, grab a bite overlooking the mountains, or just walk around and explore the beautiful sights. Right now, while concerts are still a no-go, Red Rocks is allowed to host fitness series’, specifically, the Yoga on the Rocks series. Yoga on the Rocks is a Yoga class on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with a limit of 175 people in the 2,000 person capacity amphitheater. Red Rocks, only a quick 25 minutes from Denver, is a great place to get away from the city and delve into the beautiful mountains of the west.

Garden of the Gods

About an hour drive south of Denver is the National Historic Landmark of Garden of the Gods. Garden of the Gods is a park in Colorado Springs with 21 miles of winding trail and beautiful steep rock formations. The park is made up of reddish-orange sandstone formations that are open for hiking, walking, climbing, biking, and more. The park is open from 5 am until 10 pm every day and in addition to the park, there is also the Garden of the Gods visitor and nature center. The visitor and nature center is now a museum about the geology, ecology, and history of the park. Whether you are looking for an adventurous hike or just a scenic stroll, Garden of the Gods is the perfect destination for your next day-trip excursion from Denver.

Paint Mines Interpretive Park

A little further than the others, Paint Mines Interpretive Park is a 90-minute drive southeast from Denver in Calhan, Colorado. Paint Mines Interpretive Park is a unique experience in the mountains with 4 miles of trails and colorful rock formations. The trail is rated fairly easy to moderate, and you are bound to spot some of the wildlife along the way, with mule deer, coyotes, and other small wildlife, including jackrabbits and a variety of birds. With plenty of history, wildlife, views, and gorgeous colors, Paint Mines is the perfect place for your next day-trip from Denver. Paint Mines Interpretive Park has free entry and is open from dawn to dusk and is a must-see park in the Denver area.
