Banner Elk

Banner Elk is a scenic resort area in the Blue Ridge Mountains. While winter turns this quiet town into a hub for skiing, summers are all about golf. Banner Elk has numerous courses surrounding the city, including some highly rated private golf clubs and excellent public and municipal courses.

Diamond Creek is a well-known course near Banner Elk, a highly-rated private 18-hole that is a par-70. Its location thousands of feet above sea level and beautiful setting make it a must for any North Carolina golfer.

Asheville

Asheville is another city in the Blue Ridge Mountains with a scenic backdrop. Asheville might be best-known for its thriving arts scene, but the golf in the city is also a big draw. Asheville is especially known for its mountain golf courses which pose a unique challenge to golfers.

There are several public and municipal golf courses, including the famed Asheville Municipal Golf Course, which opened in 1927. Black Mountain Golf Course is another historic course to enjoy.

Chapel Hill

Chapel Hill is best known as the site of one of North Carolina’s proudest education institutes. This picturesque town has a thriving downtown and is one of the best places in the state for golf. Chapel Hill has about 30 golf courses within a short distance of the city, meaning there are plenty of options.

Some of the best-known golf courses in and near Chapel Hill include the public UNC Finley golf course, the Preserve at Jordan Lake Course, and the private course of Chapel Hill Country Club.

Charlotte

Charlotte is North Carolina’s biggest city. It is a constantly growing city that is a cultural and economic hub for the state with a booming downtown. Durham has several public golf courses, including the Duke University Golf Club and The Crossings Golf Club. It also has members-only clubs like Hope Valley Country Club and Croasdaile Country Club. It is an excellent city with perfectly manicured courses.

Greensboro

Greensboro is the third-biggest city in the state, a rapidly growing metropolis in the northern region of North Carolina. Greensboro is an excellent place to live for golf lovers, as it has about 40 courses in the area. That means golfers are going to have their pick of several great options.

The Greensboro Country Club is a well-known option with multiple 18-hole courses to choose from. However, it is a members-only club. The Grandover Resort has multiple public courses available, and several other options scattered around the city are accessible to the public.
