How did you get into interior design? What drew you towards the industry?
Living near Manhattan, as a young teenager, I was exposed to the world of fashion and design. My travels to the City taught me to look for inspiration in architecture and art, fashion and design. I grew inspired by fabrics, color, patterns and textures and observed how these elements worked together. The more I learned about the fashion design industry, the greater influence it had on my creativity. With my background in the luxury markets, I launched Debby Gomulka Designs to bring authentic luxury design experiences to my clients that allow them to relax and enjoy an elevated quality of life.
Do you believe there have been any changes in what people desire in the design of a home due to the pandemic?
Our clients are spending more time at home as a result of the pandemic. Spacious kitchens with luxury appliances allow our clients more time for entertaining at home, cooking and baking with family and friends. In addition, many of our clients are working from home, so the need for functional, comfortable work spaces is a necessity in the design of their home.
What design trends will start to become more pronounced as we move into spring?
A return to Zen, nature-inspired spaces and multi-functional spaces are important design trends we will see in 2022. Calming pale blues and neutrals in grey and taupe tones contrasted with dramatic navy and rich sable hues will take center stage this Spring.
What do you believe the impact of a well-designed space on your clients is?
Our design team creates authentic luxury design experiences that allow our clients to relax and enjoy an elevated quality of life. By involving our clients in their own design process, the end result is a memorable reflection of our clients’ style and taste. The home is the natural extension of the soul. Your dream home should fit you like a glove.
Life is easier, happier and more fulfilling when your every need and desire is satisfied. Whether it’s entertaining, relaxing after a long day or enjoying your weekend, it’s called a dream home because every moment is touched with a sense of ease and delight. Your travels, art, and passions are expressed masterfully into the nuances of the space, infusing your every day with comfort, happiness and joy.
Do you have any current or upcoming projects you’re excited about?
We have just completed an exciting home on the Intracoastal Waterway in Wilmington. A uniquely sophisticated design project, modern European influences blend with Southern Classicism. We incorporated layers of details, including a custom copper sculpted dining table highlighted by a handcrafted copper and bronze branch-like chandelier. Local artists and artisans were commissioned to create one-of-a-kind copper sculptures and art that take center stage in the kitchen/dining area. My client has travelled around the world, so we created a vision to reflect his style while honoring the special memories that we captured throughout his home. A custom ostrich leather headboard is a showpiece in the master bedroom. The leather was sourced in Italy, and the bed was custom made in North Carolina. Beautiful family heirloom antiques complement my client’s modern yet classic style, and become a focal point throughout this magnificent home.
