Fall is upon us and Philadelphia has a long list of things you can mark on your calendar. From museum re-openings to spooky adventures, Philadelphia has a lot to offer. Here’s a list of some of the several fun activities happening this fall!
Scarecrows in the Village at Peddlers Village
Set in a historic village with charming buildings, beautiful gardens and many options for dining, shopping and lodging, Peddlers Village is a number 1 destination. Each fall, the village hosts a scarecrow display that attracts visitors from around the world! This event takes place for a period of seven weeks from September 9th to October 31st. Plan a simple day trip with your friends or family and enjoy all that Peddlers Village has to offer!
Pumpkinland at Linvilla Orchards
This 300 acre family farm offers many options for fall activities. Why not take a hayride or a train ride in the cornfield mazes, or perhaps see piles of pumpkins ranging in size and colour on display! You can also pick a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables—including apples. Children can visit farm animals and even get their faces painted. The farm market offers delicious baked goods, fall favorites such as apple cider and caramel apples. Tickets are available on their website!
Rooftop Dining
For a fun night out, grab a drink or a tasty dish at one of Philadelphia’s best beer gardens, rooftop bars and pop up-bars and restaurants. In the mood for a steak? Head over to broad street and enjoy the view from Attico, the largest and most stylish rooftop bar and restaurant. Order one of the excellent options from their menu and take in fantastic views of the city. Perhaps you’re in the mood for Mexican food instead? Head over to Más Mexicali Cantina in West Chester. Here, you can sip on delicious margaritas on the roof deck and have a fiesta!
Visit Eastern state Penitentiary for a Night Tour
What was once the most expensive and famous prison in the world is now an old ruin. If you’re looking for a spooky outing with friends, visit this night tour where you can now explore abandoned cell blocks under the night sky! This includes a cell tour of one of the most notorious criminals, Al Capone. Explore the award-winning exhibits highlighting prisons today, the root of mass incarceration and artist installations. The night tours are available on select evenings starting from 6pm.
Institute of Contemporary Art Reopening
The Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania has been open and free of charge to the public since 1963. ICA exhibitions have been known to showcase the works of emerging and under-recognized artists such as Andy Warhol, which propelled him to stardom. Enjoy the works of Laurie Anderson, Robert Mapplethorpe, Charles LeDray among other famous artists. The museum is open from September 28th.
